My new version of XLaunch brings with it icon reordering support. XLaunch is the next item up for my documentation project but in the short term before you get full docs, here are some of the new features: I renamed a lot of the menu options to make them easier to understand. I also added explanation text to some pop-up menus. All apps in the basic launcher are now alphabetical and the iPod app is back in there. XLaunch now forces itself into slot #13 and it tries to stick at least one version of Installer.app into slot #14. This is for safety so you don’t end up with both of these off screen and no way to install or launch programs. Outside of these changes, there are a few stability fixes and the bottom navbar now gives a few hints about what you’re supposed to do on each screen.Leave your feedback and questions in the comments and I’ll try getting the manual up to date before next week. This is still iPhone only. Once it’s stable, I’ll add an iTouch version as well.

I’ve decided to start building a User’s Manual for my software. First up, I’ve documented SendSong. The results are found here in my new Documentation folder. The idea is to create a single PDF file that you can download and refer to, which gets updated as the software gets updated.Love the idea? Hate it? Let me know in the comments. p.s. Thanks to Shordy999 for the feedback

I just updated SendSong to version 0.21. This new version adds “sharing”. So you can send files from your music library to any iPhone running SendFile or any Mac running FileCatcher.
This version continues and refines upon the updates from 0.20. Ringtones should now be more reliable–let me know what % play back right after you test–although you still have to reboot after adding them to avoid the “my ringtone plays back as marimba” problem. This is an iPhone fault, not an Erica fault.

I just finished a fairly exhaustive SendFile overhaul to version 0.32. The new version allows you to play back audio files that were sent to you via Bonjour sharing. In addition, the file currently being shared now appears in green and when you scan for a file, a progress indicator appears until the file is found, transfered and saved to disk. You can send files from SendFile to your Mac (via share) and catch them with FileCatcher. You can send files from your Mac with ShareFile and catch them in SendFile.Next up, adding bonjour sharing to SendSong and you’ll be able to share your music to SendFile and play it back using the new playback feature.

ShareFile is a Mac sharing utility that throws a file to an iPhone or iPod touch. Right now it only supports single files and it’s still pretty crude. You can download a copy from the Erica Utilities folder. To use, launch and drag a file onto the text field. After the file has been received, the field clears and you’re ready to send a new file.
I do some basic checks that the file exists and is not a folder. If you have trouble using this, make sure your firewall is set up to allow the Bonjour service to work. And, if you are so inclined, you can use ShareFile and FileCatcher between Macs without any iPhones or iPod touches involved at all.

Several updates today based on my attempt to standardize the way I deal with bonjour file sharing. In Erica Utilities, both catch and throw are updated with the new protocol, as is SendFile. These utilities now all use a common service (_sadun._tcp.) and are using the beginnings of a standard protocol that describes the file being sent and requests made about that file.
In addition, I have updated my Macintosh-based File Catcher. Interaction is no longer needed. Just run it and it will catch files and put them on your desktop. This is very handy when snapping screenshots. I hope to shortly put together another Erica Utility, snapngo, that snaps the screen and throws it to your Macintosh. Watch this space.

SendSong is still a work in progress but that work is…progressing. The latest experimental version is 0.20–although I should have a newer version out very soon. Significant changes are as follows:
Also remember, you must reboot your phone after using SendSong or you’ll still hear Marimba.

I’m about to do a few updates on Voice Notes and need your feedback. Voice Notes is my iPhone recording program. It allows you to record your voice using the speech-specific AMR format, and then play back those notes, manage your notes library, and share those notes by email.
For those of you familiar with VNotes, what features do you want to see? What changes do you want me to make? Bugs to fix? Here’s my current list of feature improvement goals. Feel free to add!
Sharing Add a feature that allows you to share wirelessly between iPhones. Add iPod touch receiver & playback.
Voice Mail Scan the voice mail folder as well as the recordings folder, so you can play back and share vmail as well as vnotes.
Beeps Users have requested quick beeps at the start and end of recording.
Improved renaming Better names and debugging.
Import into iTunes Frankly, I am nowhere near figuring out how to add to your music library. But this remains on the list as a feature I’d really like to add.
Scrubber bar This one is low on my priority list, guys. A scrubber with pause/stop, positioning.
MP3 conversion The magnificent core of wickedpsyched.com has ported ffmpeg to iPhone. It converts amr to mp3. But given how huge this tool is, I’m hesitant to include it in the otherwise compact VNotes distribution.
So that’s my working list. What do you guys want to see? Let me know in the comments.

I just posted about iPhone (or touch) to iPhone (or touch) file transfer over at TUAW. SendFile now uses yesterday’s Bonjour breakthroughs and “share”s files. Scan the area for any files that are being shared.
This is a first release with this new tech and still a little rusty. I forgot to assign each phone a separate service id so they conflict with each other if you try to make both share at the same time. I’ll try to fix this in upcoming releases.

Version 0.19 brings a few changes. First of all, since SendSong always creates a Ringtones.plist.hold file, you can now check for this file after a sync and restore from it. A “tink” sound means the file was not found. The normal “done” sound indicates it was restored.
Also new to 0.19 is that I’ve collapsed Play/Stop to a single button for space saving. Let me know if this behaves well and consistently.
