SendSong Update

Erica Sadun | 9:32 pm | October 20, 2007 | Update, Applications, Software

I hacked away at SendSong for a bit but I’m still pretty unhappy with how unreliable it is with ringtones. The latest version (18-experimental) has a bunch of changes:

I was wondering if you might be able to share your code to decrypt the iTunesDB file? via e-mail?

thanks..

I do not decrypt the iTunes DB file. I just use the onboard Music Library calls. They’re documented here: http://ericasadun.com/iPhoneDocs/files.html

do you mean syncing period or syncing when you have “Sync ringtones” checked? mine is unchecked.

@dallasnights:

Install OpenSSH from the Installer.. it is under the System category. Installer 3.0 makes it super easy to find.

Then go here and download this program: http://winscp.net/eng/index.php

Once that’s installed, you can then run it and when it asks for a hostname put in your phone’s IP address (tap the blue arrow to the right of your Wi-fi network in wi-fi preferences to find that out), put in root as the username, alpine as the password (if on 1.1.1, if not put dottie) and then just go to the /Applications folder using the very-familiar explorer-like interface, and then it’s a simple drag and drop operation.

Also get WinRAR from here: http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm

This is the ONLY archive program you will ever need. it opens everything from CD images to TAR files. Forget Winzip, or anything else you might have.. get winrar and you won’t ever look back, trust me.

Hillie: Syncing with “ringtones” checked! (At least I hope that’s the only time it gets overwritten).

Anyway, someone had a very nice idea of just doing this whenever SendSong gets launched. I’ll try to add that but I was so busy last night and today getting mdns working that I didn’t have a moment.

Bonjour for iPhone rocks!

Hi Erica –

Apologies for the off-topic comment, I wasn’t able to find a better way to contact you. I’m interested in getting into native iPhone development and am having horrible luck finding information on getting started. Seems like it’s hard to break “into” the know. Has anyone put together a package or guide on what resources are necessary? Are people using XCode at this point, or just good old text editors and command-line tools?

Thanks for your time =)

ok to start off… i have a list of over 2,000 songs… maybe in future updates could a “sort” option be available? so that i can click 1 time to get to the letter group im aiming for… and why is it that when i scroll near the end of my list does the app restart itself?

Comment by Erica Sadun | November 11, 2007 | 9:09 am

Sort and search are DEFINITELY on my to do list. Last night (late last night!) I got sorting working in XLaunch using the NSString compare: function. SendSong is next.
