Listen is off-line

For now the Listen proof-of-concept is off-line. I applied to Gracenote a while ago for a developer license and have been waiting for them to respond. All further Listen development depends on the Gracenote licensing, who are probably off at CES and Macworld.

Hello Erica
I’m writing this message because I believe you are the only one that can help. I have an iphone and I had jailbreak it using the online when it is 1.1.1. I have an AT&T contract so I didn’t unlock it. Now my problem is that the iphone is not known when I connect it to a PC so I can’t update my songs, calendar, …… I can only recharge the battery using a Maxell charger but no way I can connect it to my PC. I have also tried to connect it to different PCs and Mac with no luck.
What shall I do, knowing that I have tried to restore the iphone it self by pushing the sleep and home button simultaneously till the apple logo reappear. Thanks for you help.

Hello Erica,
First of all, thank you again for Listen, this is the better Application ever on Iphone, and I mean it !
I come to you for a suggestion, now that’s gracenote closed some doors…
There is a free DataBase : http://www.freedb.org/
maybe if you can’t get licensing, you may try this out…
By the way I have some knowledge in programmation, if you need my help, don’t hesitate.
Take care.

Well, Erica, you risk to have an angry crowd demanding Listen to come back online
Anyway, the app is just marvellous and it recognizes even very niche songs and many Polish ones (I write from Poland). Its most surprising achievement was when Listen had listened to some guitar solo and gave back the title of quite well known song of a Polish rock band (I was surfing radio waves and put Listen to random tests). Then I listened to the guitar solo for a while and said to myself: “No, that’s not the song.” And after the solo was done, it occured that it really was the song that Listen recognized.
Chapeau bas to Listen and to you, Erica.
And I hope Listen will not be deaf for too long.
Greetings from Poland
dac

Listen couldn’t possibly use freedb I’m guessing. The actual sound recognition is done by gracenote. Freedb doesn’t have anything like that. Maybe relatable, but I don’t think that’s free if it even works.

Hi Erica!
thanks for this app, is simply awesome!
hope you get it online again!
i have a little suggestion/request, in case you get it working again…it would be wonderful for me if the app could save the samples in the iPhone so that if it can’t connect to internet for any reason, you can always check the id server later
thanks again!
