Hi Erica, avid TUAW and now Ars follower here. I'm looking to get my girlfriend a book on Java for Christmas, an equivalent of "Programming in Objective-C" by Stephen Kochan, if you will. She is fairly well-versed in web design (HTML, CSS, etc) and she has wanted to try and learn Java for a long time now. I was hoping you could offer me some recommendations. So any help for a guy with a girlfriend in touch with her geeky side?

Thanks, and keep up the great journalism and programming help!

Dear Erica,

I have a question which is not related to this post,
i'm sorry to misuse this way of communication with you.

You know of the app veency?
I'm guessing you do, if not, then you can stop reading here *grin*

Here's my situation; i got an iphone with a broken touchscreen, only the top 1/3 works, it's only for projects.
But now i'd like to attach this phone to my TV, using it via VNC on another iphone, to stream movies over my wifi from my main powermac running iPhoneremote over the broken iphone and on to the television.

Now here's where the problem lies; i cannot get veency to work on the phone because it does not support autoconnect, and/or the accept button lies too low to respond to touch (under the top 1/3).

I tried about everything, ranging from adjusting sensitivity, editing the .dylib (which was a big failure) to just hammering the phone out of frustration..

i now turn to you as my other options are depleted (Google, hackint0sh, saurik)
If you could suggest anything to help me here, that would be much appreciated, or suggest something to saurik to maybe adjust a few things in veency.

I'm sorry for bothering you with this but at the moment i do not know where to look further.

Hi Erica,

You could try using Convos in case Google Groups doesn't work out.
