I'm trying to convince Landon Fuller to cocoatron mdhelper over to Windows. First I have to clean up the code -- a lot.

Erica,

is mdhelper open source/free software? If so, perhaps someone who knows Java or some other language which can be of use in a Windows environment could port mdhelper to Windows.

I am one such person who knows both Cocoa and Java.

I notice there is a rift between Windows and Mac iPhone software. The purpose of this comment is to find out whether or not mdhelper or other software is open source, and to let others like Mark know of the possibilities if they happen to be programmers, or maybe there are some people who would like to port the stuff to Windows.

I personally have both Mac and PC, I hate Windows but it's the only thing that runs a majority of games.

Hi, Erica.

I just downloaded your mdhelper and I'm getting a Segmentation fault every time I run it. I'm on 10.4.11 on a MacBook Pro. I can send you the ktrace output if that would help.

Is there something I can fix to make the program runnable?

Erica,

Just got your book love it. I am trying to delete unwanted .mdbackup files from the iPhone backup as it contains .mdbackups for old apps that I have deleted. Can this be done and if so it would be a great utility. Something like http://supercrazyawesome.com/ but with delete capabilities. :-)

Keep up the great info.

Hi Erica,
I have been using your tools for a while now, thanks a lot for your ongoing support to the community. Besides my real-life job I am helping out a bit over at hackint0sh.org's forum. I have mentioned mdhelper several times there for users needing to extract data from the backup.

One actual request popped up an error i cant deal with. Its a Windows user who copied the Backup folder over to an iBook. Executing ./mdhelper he is getting "dyld: incompatible cpu-subtype".
I thought the old CPU might just not be supported, asked him for specs, here is what I got: pu speed 500Mhz/128meg memory/cpu type Power PC 750.

One more: Every now and then users users complain to get an error "segmentation fault". I never had this but it popped up in the forum.

Sorry for bothering, would be great if you had an explanation. BTW: the users are pointed to download mdhelper at http://ericasadun.com/ftp/Macintosh/mdhelper-universal.zip

best regards
