VoiceNotes: In Progress
Erica Sadun | 2:57 pm | January 31, 2008 | Feature Requests, Update, Admin, Software
I’m once again updating voice notes to try to make it work more smoothly this time with core telephony, such as phone interruptions. If you’ve got any feature requests, now’s the time to speak up.

Great job on VoiceNotes Erica. I know it’s a ‘voice’ recorder but would it possible to get higher quality recordings or is the bit-rate fixed as it was on the older iPods? Also, would it be possible to make the recording level adjustable?
Thanks.

Erica, you put out great apps! I do have a question for you though.
I’ve upgraded to 1.1.3 Official JB with a 1.1.3 baseband.
I created an application symlink to /var/root/applications and so although I can run the VoiceNotes application, it can’t save or play the file. (It’s as if the file is never recorded at all).
I’m assuming this is my placement of the application symlink to root instead of mobile. If I change it to mobile will this help voicenotes run properly?
HELP!

FEATURE REQUEST: please make it work with the ipod touch… also, multi track recording would be nice, even if you have to limit it to 2 tracks, it would still be very useful. I use (or try to use since it crashes so often) voicenotes to record music ideas on the go, and it would be nice to be able to record atop another track. that way I could record 2 guitar tracks, for example.

Make sure you’re running a version of VNotes that’s meant for 113. It puts recordings into ~mobile

The ability to record a conversation would be a really helpful feature (esp. for creating minutes after a conference call)

Dear Erica,
The feature I wish I could have is a piece of software that allows me to export a specific message from the answering machine as a sound file. The current version does it but is convert all the messages in once.
What could be great is to have a tool that allows you to hear each message before getting it as a sound file and then be able to place it in a mail message as you can do right now.
So to sum up, the same export functionnality, but in a specific app with the possibility to chose the one to export.
Many thanks,
Keep up the good work…

The problem I have with Funiculus (which uses AudioQueue, but it does use AVRecorder to manually route to the mic) is that anytime a system sound plays, the routing category is switched to the default, meaning that the input switches to LineIn instead of the internal mic. This becomes evident because the data suddenly is all zeros. Apparently the main route switching mechanism is contained within the [AVRecorder activate].

Erica! I love that you added the volume monitor!!! As an artist this feature you have added helps me reduce distortion while sampling!
If you could somehow add a slider to be able to adjust the amount of volume the mic picks up this would be even more helpful!
I love your work! Keep on keep’in on!

I love your software first off.
I’m going to mention a request made earlier, and ask if it would even be possible to do multitrack recordings? Could the iphone handle playing back one or more tracks while also recording?
I’m not even going to request it, just hoping you might be able to let me know if you think its technically possible.
Thanks again for all your hard work.

Thanks for the great program. I think it will help many mobile users to provide some way to reply the mails with voice notes. Now it is possible, but takes many steps. At least there can be another button on the main page which stops the recording and send it via mail, then clean up the temp file left over. Or use the same temp file every time.
Thanks in advance Erica.

Hi Erica, love your Utilities, esp. the Voice Recorder. I have a great idea for VNotes 0.4. It would be great if one could use the button integrated in the standard iphone headphone’s mic to switch recording on and off. Push once to record. Push again to stop recording. I could be very productive while driving (and it would be much safer, too!)

Hi,
I add my request to the previous ones asking for this program to be usable in tha ipod touch. Fring works great, just this bit is missing.

Actually, the issue is just this “program not compatible” warning in the appstore. Is there a workaround? Can it be installed manually? I don’t see it in cydia or installer repositories…
