I now suspect that it wasn't the sine and cosine functions themselves, but rather that those functions increased the calculation time to the point where the input audio queue would be without buffers, which perhaps caused the reboot.. I lowered the queue length and it hasn't crashed yet...but it's not much good as a guitar tuner like this. (For anyone who is curious, the code is at: http://sourceforge.net/projects/funiculus/ ). I constantly use up my text message space and receive a message telling me it's almost full. Then, I stop receiving new message. It's incessant. The app would simply be a one-field screen that allows you to type in how much storage space you'd like to give for text messages. If you're interested in developing this, please let me know.
