First there was Pirate then Halloween, now Dress Up. It scans ~/Media/Costumes and looks for folders of art to use. If it doesn’t find the Costumes folder, it creates one and adds “Pirate” and “Halloween” themes to start you off.
Add small PNG images that take advantage of transparency to best create new wardrobes and please share your collections with me.

I’m getting the message about the ringtones but frankly dudes and dudettes sending me threatening emails is not going to inspire me to put in the work to add ringtones back to the program. Just saying.
And no, I’m not talking about the polite comments, I’m talking about rather scathing email responses.

Benzano asked me to put together an application that would accept commands from shell scripts and display the results through SpringBoard. So I put together Billboard. Billboard gets run via SpringBoard and it’s sent commands from postalert via Bonjour messaging.
In the end, it didn’t work under 1.0.2 (needs 1.1.1 and higher) and so it was a dead end for what he needed. But it’s still fairly interesting as a proof of concept if you want to give it a try. You can run postalert on the same iPhone or on another iPhone or iPod touch. Then issue postalert list to receive a list of commands that Billboard accepts.
Both apps are available in the test folder.

I sort of remember updating this last month but I forget exactly what the update involves. Anyway, here’s officially announcing version 0.08. Enjoy.

So yesterday, I got talking with some guys over at #iphone-uikit on irc.osx86.hu and someone mentioned that old novelty you could buy at toys stores. It’s a kind of short cylinder with holes on the top and when you turn it over it moos. Thus inspired, I decided to write an iPhone version of that novelty toy and here it is, in the Pumpkin Utilities folder.

I finally got around to updated “toggle”. Toggle is a command line utility, part of the Erica Utilities, that allows you to switch an Application’s visibility in SpringBoard from off to on or on to off. To use, issue the command toggle path-to-your-app. If the App is already hidden, it is revealed. If visible, it hides. You need to issue a restart command (also part of the utilities) to update SpringBoard and show the change.
You can download a copy of toggle from the Erica Utilities folder. This updated utility moves the package to version 0.53 and should work with both iPhone and iPod touch.

In 2008, new iPhone native apps will revolution your life and streamline your work. This is not one of them. This is about the answer to the conundrum: what is iPhone + art. If you do the math, it quickly becomes clear that iPhone + art = iPhart. And there you have it. The precise reason why I dare not post this on TUAW.com.
Surely Steve Jobs had no idea about this kind of use when he agreed to 3rd party software apps. But there we are. There is the iPhone and there is iPhart and there is iFartz.com (temporarily offline).
If you’d like to try this most awful awesome iPhone app ever, load a copy of the software onto your iPhone using Installer.app (SMXY repository, in Toys) and then turn the iPhone on its front and then its back. I know. I know. Not for use for anyone with a mental age over 13. It’s amazingly fab yet completely without redeeming value whatsoever.
Oh, and p.s.? Try *shaking* the iPhone!

Tapp was pretty much my first major iPhone application after writing do Shell. It showed its age. A lot. So I rewrote it completely. It’s now actually pretty nice. Please give it a try and give me some feedback.
For those unfamiliar with Tapp (which is much older than the completely unrelated App Tapp), it allows you to add shell commands to a list and run them with a single tap.
You can create the commands directly by editing the /var/root/.tapp file. One command per line. Due to user requests, the program starts in execute mode, not edit mode. And edit mode is greatly enhanced.
Want to give it a spin? Look here.

I just updated SendSong to version 0.25. It’s completely written from the ground up. It’s also missing one major feature, which was becoming a pain in the neck and is no longer needed due to Apple policy changes. Can you guess what it is?
If it is not obvious from the previous paragraph, I will greatly appreciate any testing and feedback you can offer.
